Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy is available at our Mill Hill branch and is a non-surgical treatment that uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate healing in damaged soft tissues. Each session involves delivering targeted pressure waves to the injured area using a handheld device. It’s fast, safe, and requires no downtime.

How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?

Shockwave Therapy works by triggering a cascade of biological effects in the tissue:

  • Stimulates blood flow and nutrient delivery to the injured area
  • Disrupts chronic inflammation that may be delaying healing
  • Encourages tissue regeneration and repair
  • Reduces pain by decreasing nerve sensitivity and breaking up abnormal calcium deposits (e.g., calcific tendinopathy)

You may feel some mild discomfort during the session — but the effects are often felt quickly, and improvements typically occur over a course of 3–6 sessions.

  • Most people need 3–6 sessions, spaced 1 week apart
  • No needles, no anaesthesia, and no recovery time
  • Mild soreness is possible after treatment but settles quickly
  • Results may be felt after just 1–2 sessions
  • Most effective when used alongside exercise therapy

What Conditions Can Be Treated with Shockwave Therapy?

  • Plantar fasciopathy
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Patellar tendinopathy (jumper’s knee)
  • Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
  • Golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis)
  • Gluteal tendinopathy / greater trochanteric pain syndrome
  • Calcific tendinopathy of the shoulder
  • Proximal hamstring tendinopathy
  • Shin splints & medial tibial stress syndrome
